About James Clark

Stuffing envelopes for local elections in 2021, Constituency Office

Political: With a background in grassroots party work and a fervent dedication to serving the community, I am committed to bringing fresh energy and expertise to North East Hertfordshire. As a former Area Chairman, Association Chairman and founder and Executive Director of Conservative Friends of the Armed Forces, I have a proven track record of driving positive change and fostering growth within local associations. You might have attended my Hertfordshire Area thank you party in May 2023, joined me across the constituency for campaigning over the last three years or met the former Foreign Secretary and now Home Secretary James Cleverly when I brought him to Buntingford last year. I was delighted to be a guest speaker for the local association Patrons Club and have attended numerous Association events with my wife Hannah over the years since becoming a member of the Association (including the fundraising auctions at Lord and Lady Trenchard’s, Sir Oliver’s 30th Anniversary Dinner and various dinner functions and campaign sessions).

Professional: I have breadth and depth in my professional career. I have worked in Parliament, CCHQ, and the NHS before serving as an Officer in the Army for approximately six and a half years as a Regular and 7 years as a (still serving) Reservist attaining the rank of Major.

After leaving the Army full time I briefly worked abroad in Dubai and Iraq, and subsequently returned to found my own consulting firm. I was Director of Communications for the International Senior Lawyers Project (ISLP), and worked in Westminster advising on campaigns before returning to Parliament as Chief of Staff for Gagan Mohindra MP from February 2020 to September 2021. I left to run my property development and social media ventures and grow Conservative Friends of the Armed Forces which I founded and run. I was coaxed back to Westminster in October 2023 by Secretary of State for Defence Grant Shapps to work as a Special Adviser at the Ministry of Defence. Grant understands that if I were successfully selected I would leave my professional role to campaign in the seat full time.

My Vision for the future of North East Herts

The results of the survey below will inform my vision for North East along with my frequent conversations with local councillors and members of the Executive. From joined-up campaigning to proactive fundraising and engaging events, I am dedicated to amplifying Conservative values and ensuring that our voices are heard loud and clear. Sensitive planning, rural issues like fly tipping and theft along with revitalising our high streets and making our beautiful towns attractive places for young people to move to and start families are all local priorities. If selected I will continue Sir Oliver’s great work in protecting our vital chalk streams. I am really excited about the opportunity of setting the direction of travel for the constituency – be it as a protected, sheltered commuter belt for London or part of the wider Cambridge environment or something else entirely – with the help and guidance of local members.

Getting to Know North East Herts

Having immersed myself in the beauty and vibrancy of the constituency for the last 9 years, I bring a deep understanding of the region’s diverse communities and their needs. I have spent 5 Christmases in the constituency, buy my bacon at Pearce’s farm shop on the A10, did my ante natal classes at Royston Health Centre, drink pints at the Jollie Postie and love having dinner at the Sword Inn Hand in Westmill. Whether it’s through my involvement in local schools, political associations, or my ongoing commitment serving in the Army Reserve, I am deeply invested in the welfare of our constituents. I can’t wait to experience more from the constituency and never stop exploring.
